![]() ![]() Salar de Uyuni is made primarily of salt. Located in the Bolivian Altiplano, it is the world’s largest salt flat and is located at a high altitude of 3,656 meters (10,000 feet) above sea level. The Salar de Uyuni is a 10,582 square kilometer expanse of cracked white salt, left behind when an ancient salt lake named Coipasa dried up thousands of years ago. Think 10 billion tons of salt sprawling across an endless desert. It was one of the most magical experiences of our lives. The Salar de Uyuni is one of the most spectacular adventure-travel destinations on Earth. Every day of this tour had absolutely spectacular scenery. Trekking poles would have made it easier for them, but not necessary if you’re under 50 I think. ![]() We also really enjoyed the hike on day 1, though it was too hard for my parents. ![]() If you have time, I’d highly recommend the 4 day tour, as we went during the dry season (June), but we still got to watch the sunrise and sunset with the mirror effect because there is one place that has fresh water springs almost all year round…but you don’t have time to go to it if you do the normal 3D tour. The food was more than enough and tasty, and the hotels were more comfortable than I expected. Sometimes we were the only car at a place and got to experience something magical, like the full moonrise on a mirror, because of his knowledge and experience! Our driver was also very skilled and safe. Israel spoke perfect English, and he really knew how to plan things so we could have the best possible time. We had such a wonderful 4D/3N trip with Israel as our tour guide! Andes Salt Expedition did a fantastic job, answering all of my questions beforehand and helping my parents (ages 73 and 74) feel safe and comfortable the whole time. ![]()
